Alireza Ghorbani

Familiar since childhood, by family transmission, of the Coran recitation, Alireza Ghorbani also became at thirty years a foreground singer of the Persian song. His very ramified repertory constitutes the radif and the tasnif, whose vocal rarest techniques are very well controlled from him. He occurs in small formation, with four musicians, as with the national Orchestra of Iran.

Baran Ensemble

Baran is a Persian classical percussive ensemble, of around 7 members, using traditional Persian strings and drums. They will be joined by past Six Pillars guest Farshad Mohammadi whose work pushes the boundaries of Persian classical into the realm of contemporary classical with composition and arrangement.

A one-off performance with master vocalist Alireza Ghorbani and Baran Ensemble. The concert The Voice of Friendship, Ode of Love is based on the poetry of the Rumi while the compositions are written by Farshad Mohammadi.

Accompanied by Baran Group acclaimed classical vocalist Alireza Ghorbani plays the Barbican on London on 21st October 2013.

Ghorbani has performed the world over and Six Pillars had a look at his concert ahead of the performance date back in 2012. Hear the interview with santoor player/concert organiser Farshad Mohammadi below, in which he calls Gorbani one of the most open-minded classical singers of our day.

The title for this concert AN ODE TO LOVE is taken from the poems of 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic Jalal ad-Din Rumi, an enduring source of inspiration across the world, and a recurring theme in Baran-Gorbani collaborations.
